Tony & Guy and Hobs
Having given up my city centre studio only a week ago with 2 very important Hair Salon shoots booked, i was quite nervous about these shoots. I had to re book from the location being my studio to shooting in 2 salons in 1 day. Thankfully they were on the same street and were actually more happy to be shooting in the salon!
I was nervous about space and 'what if i'd forgotten something'
Anyway i had a lovely assistant Gabrielle helping me out and everything went FAB, the small spaces in the salon were fine too. Each stylist wanted a completely different look as they were all entering different competitions.
My favourite is the black and white image for Hobs. The stylist can only enter the colour as she needed to show the colour of the hair. The black n white i did for my self ... and LOVE!
I remembered something funny today, when i was 21 i was working for Absolute Leeds magazine and the Yorkshire Post. I was sent out to photograph some photographer who was doing a Tony & Guy shoot. I was to do fly on the wall shots while he was busy and then also through the interview he had.
So i walked in ... not nervous at all and did my job... listened intently at the interview and left.
A year on i heard this name mentioned in my photography class by a tutor.... One of the most inspirational portrait and fashion photographers..... RANKIN!!!! I couldn't believe that was who i photographed in a salon in Leeds... I certainly didn't do my home work on that job. To be fair knowing now how amazing he is... if i was to do the job now i'd be a nervous wreak!
I'll try find the shots I took and scan them in.... things were on film back then.... So they could be anywhere.
