Things do do in Paris – Montmartre Guided Tour
When we think Montmartre, we think climbing the steps leading up to the front of the Sacre Coeur and turning our heads around to admire the great view of Paris.
We think the beyond crowded artist square, where I learnt that the artists actually have to audition to be there. Interesting fact number 1.
We think the Moulin Rouge… seen that…walked past that a ton of times but what goes on inside? I had no idea! We all know our favourite french film Amelie was filmed in Montmartre too… but still, Paris is huge and I haven’t had the opportunity to truly explore the little corners. I’ve wanted to explore Montmarte for quite a while now, personally and also to discovers new locations for my portrait sessions.
So what better way to discover Montmartre than to book a guided tour… I’ve never been on a guided tour before, I’ve always been one to go on my own adventures and explore through losing myself in new place. So I wasn’t quiet sure what to expect…..

From the second the tour started, we were all told such an interesting fact that the whole group was ….ooooooohhhhhh really… wow!!!!
Good start huh!
So I headed out in true ‘Combat Camera Queen’ style… armed with my iPhone (Instagram addicted) and professional camera around my neck.

During the whole tour I can only describe myself as ‘child in a sweetie shop’. I wanted to photograph everything… I was completely wow’d by the textures, hidden alleyways, colours, unique views and the little details that normally go un-noticed. The entertaining history lessons… were simply ‘cherry on the top of the cake’.
Karen pointed out all the places which featured in the film Amelie. This has now made me want to watch the whole film again, just say happily to myself ‘I’ve been there’.
We wandered past the house of the famous artists and we spotted the sunflowers placed in the window of where Van Gogh had lived.
Every corner turned was the most beautiful view.
From my first experience of a tour… I’m definitely sold that it’s one of the most time effective and interesting ways to see a new city.
Burying my head in a map, making bad choices at restaurants, realising that I didn’t read the history of that awesome looking building… and not actually sure what it’s all about…
That’s a thing of the past for me now. I’m sold.. bring on the tours!
My photographs were all taken during Karen’s 2.5 tour. Now come on … who wouldn’t want a romantic couple shoot wrapped in the beauty of Montmartre?
The 2.5 hour tour costs only: 30€ / person High Season, 25€ / person Low Season.

Her stories of the artists were truly fascinating, much of their tales I had forgotten since art school and the history was certainly not told in the funny and memorable ways that Karen told them. Unforgettable.
What a lovely bunch of people to share the delights of Paris with. 🙂
